What is Monster Market?

Monster Market is a curated freaky shape-shifting annual pop-up shop event in Memphis, TN organized by Holtermonster, focusing on dark, offbeat, strange, and niche themes.

We’re open for a short time every October, and we carry a different curated collection of high quality art, apparel, & home goods each season! All of our inventory is sourced from artists, makers, artists & small brands from all over the country, who are selected by annual invitation. We’ve hosted 9 separate pop-up shops since 2017—from month-long installments to one-day appearances to even a few virtual years spent shipping orders during lockdown. How Monster Market Began…

Hello, I’m Holtermonster.

I'm a creative living in Memphis— I design, illustrate, brand, write copy, build websites, and make posters. I love working on my ever-expanding line of Holtermonster products—shirts, stickers, buttons, magnets, and other stuff I make myself. I'm also just generally a fan of monsters, science fiction, illustration, horror, and everything to do with Halloween.

Over the years, I've set up booths at art markets, holiday sales, and vendor festivals. I lugged my wares out to Cooper-Young Festival for over a decade. On Time Warp Drive-In nights, you can still find me set up outside the concessions stand at the Summer Drive-in selling posters and stickers (below).

I've done well with the support of my awesome customers, but I thought it'd be pretty damn cool if there was an event where the weird stuff was the focus instead of the afterthought. So, I created Monster Market—a shop designed to showcase the high quality works & goods of weird, dark independent makers from all over!
